Sustainable Rural Development

Sustainable Rural Development involves a holistic approach where the daily needs of rural populations must be covered by reliable public utilities combined with technical, socioeconomic and environmental conditions to support regional economies and urban-rural linkages. This is essential for poverty eradication since global poverty is overwhelmingly rural. To meet most SDGs, it is therefore critical to coordinate rural development initiatives through efforts at the global, regional, national and local levels. In this context, priority areas for WatMo Consulting include:

1) Promoting pro-poor planning and budgeting at national and local levels;

2) Promoting the enhancement of the provision of and access to services as a precursor to improving livelihoods of the rural population;

3) Designing and promoting social protection programs to benefit vulnerable households;

4) Building social capital and climate change resilience in rural communities.
