The overarching goal of the Paris Agreement is to hold the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. As such the decarbonization of numerous sectors, especially the energy sector, is necessary if we are to limit the temperature to prescribed pre-industrial levels. To achieve this, The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that renewable energy will need to account for at least 65% of global electricity generation by 2030.
